Aerial Surveillance Course

The Aerial Surveillance Course (ASC) has been designed to meet the needs of member companies who have identified the requirement to undertake Aerial Surveillance as part of an oil spill response.
 

Introduction:

The aim of the course is to provide industry with personnel competent and capable of undertaking aerial
surveillance operations as part of oil spill response activities.

Target Audience:

Industry operations personnel who may be tasked with aerial surveillance tasks during any oil spill; contractors or third parties wishing to up-skill; government employees.
HUET is a pre-requisites to attend this course.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Effectively plan and coordinate an aerial surveillance flight;
  • Carryout the plotting and recording of oil spill information; and
  • To present oil spill information back through the IMT in a clear and coherent manner.
  • Understand basic hydrocarbon theory and its relevance to aerial surveillance.

Learning Methods:


The course consists of a mixture of theory and practical activities (including supervised flights).
Day one covering classroom based theory aspects, and day two mix of practical surveillance conducted to demonstrate and consolidate techniques for the collection and analysis of oil spill information.
Depending on aerial asset availability and the number of participants, each candidate will be provided with a minimum of one session of 20 -30 minutes of flight time under direct supervision of AMOSC staff.
Experience in coordinating flight and surveillance activities, quantification techniques, and post flight analysis of data are all covered so that participants are able to confidently and effectively carryout aerial surveillance should the need arise in the future.
